Colt’s solution - photovoltaic cells fixed onto louvre blades – generates more than 40 percent of this building’s energy requirements. With Colt’s thermohydraulic Girasol system, the louvres track movement of the sun.
Architect: Helmut Schimek
Solutions provided by Colt:
• Exceptional energy efficiency
• Enhanced aesthetics
• Minimised solar heat gain
• Precisely controlled use of natural daylight
• Comfortable working environment
• Simplicity of sun-tracking
There are 13 louvre sectors on each of the four floors, all linked to a solar absorber that calculates the position of the sun. This provides correct louvre positioning via a hydraulic system actuators.
The Colt Girasol autonomous sun-tracking system dispenses with the need for expensive or complex electro-mechanical control systems, optimising energy production through the PV cells and carefully controlling daylight entry so that there’s less potential for glare.
