Norwich City Council wanted to preserve the character of England’s largest open-air market but improve the comfort of shoppers. Colt’s canopies open and close according to the weather.

A Colt ICS 4-Link control system varies the position of the canopies to pre-programmed set points, responding to weather station sensors that assess ambient temperature, rain and wind speed. Each canopy, 8.4 metres long and 1.2 metres wide, comprises two independent but mechanically linked sections, each moved by an electric actuator.

The control strategy has allowed canopies to be positioned opposite each other and to overlap.
