This 1960’s tower block, the tallest building in Ireland, was completely re-clad with a Colt active glass louvre secondary façade, covering over 1400 m2. Colt was ensured the design specification was met by providing extensive in-house testing, at its facilities in Havant.
Architect: Shay Cleary Architects
Solutions provided by Colt:
• Increased comfort
• Energy saving, with no need for air-conditioning
• Aesthetic improvements
Active, ventilated facades respond to daily and seasonal changes, keeping a cool interior and reducing energy costs by removing the need for air-conditioning. The building ‘reacts’ to the climatic environment, with each bank of louvres, controlled by actuators, opening up in the summer and closing in the winter.
